Tuesday 12/18

Assigned Document Analysis.  Due Friday 1/4.  These are the documents that are the backbone to our paper that we're writing as soon as we return from break (due date for paper 1/22). We'll be working on this alone for the first 2 1/2 weeks of the semester.  If you were absent, see me!  I'll need to explain some items.  My hope is that you can get these done in your down time between finals, so you don't have homework over break.  Of course, if you prefer to do it over break, that's fine too.

We went over the French Revolution "Quests".  Grades are in gradebook.
Class averages:
1st- 83%, 4th- 79%, 5th, 79%, 6th- 82%, 7th- 81%

Passed back Salon projects for hours 5-7.

Wednesday 12/12 and Thursday 12/13

• Class picked up the Review for the Final.  It will not be due for a grade and will not be extra credit.  It is totally up to students to decide whether or not to complete.  Therefore, they can share the workload on this.  Word to the wise:  Everything on the final is on the review and there is nothing on the review that isn't on the final...

Tuesday 12/11

LT- I can evaluate whether or not the Reign of Terror was justified.

• Discussed documents for 10 minutes.  If you have questions, see me ASAP.
• Modeled bucketing with the question "How is sophomore year different from freshman year?".  Possible buckets: 1. more freedom, 2. classes more difficult, 3. busier.  Then we identified evidence to support these buckets: 1. driving, job brings more financial independence 2. more projects, more preparation for college 3. Sports more competitive, more time with friends.
• Complete bucketing and Chicken foot thesis : use white outline paper in the classroom. Do not use the outline at the very back of the pink DBQ packet.
• Homework- Outline is due next class period!
• Friday: French Revolution Quiz/Test= Quest.  27 questions.  Remember, just because it is a test and just because they are multiple choice, does not mean it is easy.  You have to KNOW the material, not just identify it.

Monday 12/10

Class asked any questions that they had from the typed notes.
Read and take notes for Chapter 7, sections 1 and 2 (due Monday).  Refer to typed notes as you read.
      This will help you decipher what is more important.  If you see it both places, it must be key to the story.

Students picked up scoring guide (gives more detail about expectations) for Mock Salon.  Make sure your points in the passport are bulleted, no paragraphs and not cut and pasted from a website. They picked their topics, then went to the LMC to research for Mock Salon project.

Tomorrow, we'll meet in the classroom.  We'll go over Ab. Mon. quizzes and Renaissance essays (completing a reflection) then go to the LMC for research.

Friday 11/16

LT- I can show my mastery of Absolute Monarchy by receiving an 80% or higher on the quiz.  I can analyze the impact Enlightenment ideals had on history.

Read through sample outlines and essays (poor, mediocre, excellent examples).  Evaluate your outline and reflect on what you can do next time (repeating the positives, changing the negatives).

Read in textbook pages 171-181. As you READ, take notes on Philosopher's Chart and Additional Ideas (on the back). Have this completed for Friday.

1st hour took Geography portion of their test.

Friday 10/26

LT- I can demonstrate my knowledge of Exploration through assessment.  I can understand terminology, issues, and the candidates in the upcoming election.

Exploration/European Geography "Quest" (quiz/test).  If you were absent, you will need to take the "quest" on Wednesday morning, in the testing room (2103).  It will take, roughly, 30 minutes to take the test.  The room is open from 7:35-8:35 and you need to bring your ID.

We also had an election discussion, which you will not need to make up if you were absent.

LT- I can honestly evaluate my Exploration Project.  I can actively synthesize information about Exploration.

Returned grades and feedback from Exploration project.  Discussed highlights of Exploration.  Homework- prepare for Exploration quiz on Friday- including Europe map (same countries quizzed on earlier this year, need to make sure you STILL know them).

Evaluate and collect concept map.  We discussed the Counter-Reformation.  Some classmates took notes, so you can get notes if you want.  They will not be in your notebook though.

Friday 9/28

If you had a Holocaust Research assignment Re-do, it was due today.  Read through Counter-Reformation readings (in absentee folders).  Complete a concept map over these events/concepts.  Due Monday.

Wednesday and Thursday 9/27

LT- I can evaluate the historical significance of Martin Luther and Henry VIII.
Using the textbook, complete history frames for Martin Luther (p. 49-50) and Henry VIII (51-52).  Make sure the significance for these are apparent in your writing.
Class wrote Theses for LSN (don't need to make this up if you were absent).  FYI- Mr. Beckert will be with you tomorrow, I have a curriculum team meeting.

Sunday Service- Read and answer question on bottom.  We had a discussion about Church corruption including: the sale of indulgences, nepotism, and simony.  Please familiarize yourself with those terms and how they relate to the Protestant Reformation.

Using p. 48 in your textbook, complete "Event and Causes" (found in the absentee folder in the classroom).

Wednesday 9/19 & Thursday 9/20

LT- I can evaluate positives and negatives in Renaissance art and place artwork in chronological order.

We went over Renaissance Values writings (turned in 8/31).  If you were gone, I have yours- see me.  Please keep in mind, the following for writing in the future:
1. Go beyond Captain Obvious, explain your thoughts
2. Keep a balance between being concise and explaining ideas
3. No "I", "we", etc.
4. No "thing" or "things"
5. No contractions
6. Make sure you answer the question posed
7. Proofread your writing before you turn it in.  Shouldn't have grammar mistakes or easy word spelling mistakes

Origin and Purpose for "Women of the Renaissance"- complete 2-3 sentences evaluating the origin and purpose of this article. See below. 

Renaissance notes

Origin: is where the source comes from. What is the source of this document? Who is the author? Where did it come from? When was it written? Was it written contemporaneously with the event or after? How much later? Is there any significance to the date of the document or its date of publication? Where was this published?

Purpose: is where you have to put yourself in the author/artist’s shoes.  What do you think they are trying to communicate to readers? Why did the author write the source? What ideas/feelings was he/she trying to express/evoke? (The purpose is especially important when it comes to pieces of propaganda as sources).

***You don't need to address all these questions, just the significant ones for this reading.

LT- Analyze the six Renaissance values and apply them to today's world.

Renaissance values review- In 5 sentences or less, convey which Renaissance value you think we need to focus more on in our American society and which we need less of.  Explain WHY.

We also had a discussion about our own values, based on the scenerio on the back of the Ren. Values reading.

Wednesday 9/29 and Thursday 9/30

LTs- 1. Review knowledge of Roman empire and Middle Ages by completing a graphic organizer. 2. Discuss and evaluate the Renaissance values.

Use the History Frames (located in the absentee folders) to review the Middle Ages and Roman Empire.  Copy from a class mate.  Read through the Renaissance Values (located in the absentee folder).  Complete the back regarding your values and be prepared to share in discussion tomorrow.

Tuesday 8/28

LTs- 1. Analyze the significance of the Ottoman Empire. 2. Evaluate your mind/concept maps and your knowledge of the Ottoman Empire. 3. Review you knowledge of Roman Empire and Middle Ages.

Looked at World Religions and European Geography quiz.  Evaluated the Concept maps with a scoring guide then turned in. Started verbal review of Roman Empire.

Finished article summaries. Completed geography mapwork (copies in absentee files).  Handed out textbooks.  Played an internet geography game on the smartboard to polish knowledge of country locations.  Hmwk- Study for quiz tomorrow!  It is over World Religions and European geography.

Tuesday 8/21

Discussed findings of 5 major world religions (chart).  Most classes started summary of articles, we'll finish this next class period.  Remember- quiz over religions and European geography (we'll cover next class period) is on Friday.

Monday 8/20

Students finished working on religions charts with partners.  Everyone printed off their articles and got ready to tell the class about them tomorrow.  Tomorrow we'll also discuss the info in the chart and check textbooks out.  Remember, we'll have a quiz over this Friday along with European geography that we'll cover this week.
